YouthBuild Columbus Community School
Construction

The construction department gives students at YouthBuild Columbus Community School the opportunity to gain hands-on, real life experience in the building process. Students will either participate in the rehabilitation of low-income homes within the City of Columbus or participate in building projects within the construction lab.
Students will learn the following residential construction skills:
This program is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, under a $1,100,000 grant that provides 80% of the funding for students enrolled in the DOL component to our program; and in part by non-governmental sources, under a $275,000 contribution that provides 20% of the funding for students enrolled in the DOL component of our program.
Students who complete 450 hours of job site time will earn their Pre-Apprenticeship Certification as well.
Students will learn the following residential construction skills:
- Basic Construction Safety
- Construction Math
- Hand Tools
- Power Tools
- Blueprints
- Communication
- Employability
- Green Building
